A Better Continuum Means Better CareAs healthcare providers, our paramount goal is always the health of our patients. With our population ages increasing in the United States and around the world, that means developing an ever-expanding range of services and new ways to deliver them to meet needs not even envisioned just a few years ago.
Today, we're seeing more age-related diseases, including many forms of dementia. Increasing life expectancies have produced new needs and have made us change the way we think about senior care. The results? More partnerships with acute care hospitals, which increase the value of the continuum of care, especially benefitting patients, physicians and hospitals themselves.

COLUMBIA, TN -- Maury Regional [Medical Center] recently partnered with Murfreesboro-based National HealthCare Corp. (NHC) to build a skilled nursing and transitional care center in Columbia, an $18.3 million investment that will create more than 125 jobs. The new center, called NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center, includes private rooms, enhanced dietary services as well as a state-of-the-art rehabilitation gym for inpatient and outpatient physical therapy. "Because of the age and design of the facilities, it made sense to combine the 92 skilled nursing beds at our Hillview location with the 20 beds from Maury Regional Skilled Nursing Unit," says John Lines, NHC senior vice president and general counsel. "A second motivator was the changing nature of health care in the 21st century. All providers - acute and post-acute - are becoming increasingly responsible for the care and outcomes of their patients once they leave their buildings. It made sense for two quality organizations to partner together to enhance care across the continuum. MRMC and NHC have worked well together for decades. There was, and is, a mutual respect for the commitment to excellent health care that both organizations maintain."
